When you pay for a car enough money to make other people bleed in envy, you expect it to be perfect. And we're not talking here about the supercars which are meant to be driven to exhaustion, but about that type of vehicles which spell out "class", "royalty" or "very wealthy dude with an attitude."
Such a brand is Bentley, a name we frankly don't recall having been associated with glitches of any kind. A name which, more or less, spells perfection. Until now, that is...
In a year which started with Toyota making the biggest recall the world has ever known, in a year when Ferraris go up in flames like popcorn explodes under heat, news of Bentley performing a recall reached us this week.
The problem is not mechanical, nor is it very dangerous. But it could be. Bentley will recall 596 Arnage R, Arnage T, Arnage RL, Brookland and Azure models manufactured in between 2007 and 2009 because of the... hood ornament. We'll let them explain, as they did on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website:
"There is a potential for the 'B' hood ornament's retracting mechanism to become corroded. This may lead to the 'B' hood ornament not retracting as intended when a vehicle is involved in a crash. If the hood ornament does not retract, it could increase the risk of injury to a pedestrian in the event of a crash between the vehicle and the pedestrian."
Bentley announced it will begin performing repairs early next week, on September 27, adding that there were no incidents reported yet. The fix consists of replacing the retractable "B" mechanism altogether.
