Bentley Plans to Spawn Hardcore Sports Car With More Muscle Than the GT3-R

According to Autocar, Bentley is on the verge of coming up with their first rear-wheel drive modern-age sports car as soon as 2016. This also means that the Continental GT3-R won’t be the company’s most dynamic road car ever, because the Brits only have one word in their minds: extreme.

Most likely, the new car will be based on the current Continental GT but will feature a rear-wheel-drive system rather than an all-wheel drive one as the GT3-R. In fact, the new model will also accommodate a meaner version of Bentley’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 which will develop 600+ HP after engineers are done with it.

Even if power will come in big numbers, Bentleys are still known for not being very light on their feet, as they tip the scales at over 2 tons. However, the new sports car will receive all the attention possible weight reduction can get, so we could witness Bentley’s first car that will weigh less than 2,000 kg (4,409 lb), according to the same source.

In terms of design the new sports car will get inspired by the aforementioned GT3-R but given the fact that Bentley is aiming to a more hardcore version, we could see that reflected in the visual cues of the body kit, especially concerning the front carbon fiber splitter and fixed carbon fiber rear wing.

With these changes in line, Bentley’s 2016 sports car could go from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) faster than the GT3-R (able to hit 100 km/h or 62 mph from a standstill in 3.8 seconds) but will also reflect that and the increased power output in a price tag of around $445,000.
