Launched in 2010, Bentley's Mulsanne is not without its fair share of fans, especially in America, where it's the darling of the hip hop industry. But while looks like that don't date, the engine could use a little bump in the right direction.
According to the guys at Auto Express, Bentley are looking into the matter and could have an answer ready as soon as this year's Paris Motor Show. Currently, the mighty "six and a three quarters" puts out 505bhp (377 kW), a respectable figure to ensure wafting speeds. However, come this fall, that number will grow to 550 bhp (410 kW).
Word comes straight from the wolf's mouth, as Bentley's CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer hinted at a high-performance Mulsanne during an interview at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Weight saving measures will also be taken, probably similar to the ones reported by the 2014 Flying Spur. As a result, the car could be a little quicker, dropping its 0 to 60 mph (98 km/h) time from 5.3 seconds to just below 5.
What we're not 100% sure about is whether this new Mulsane we're getting all hyped up about is really a sports version, as some might believe, or just an update. Remember, the Euro 6 emissions standard are going to be enforced this fall. Plus a 45 hp increase in output hardly seems worthy of the GT3-R badge, like the one received by the Continental coupe.
Whatever the case, it seems that Bentley's luxury brand image will get a much thicker coating of performance in just a few months. It's perhaps fitting, considering the Mulsanne is named after a famous corner on the Le Mans track but doesn't handle like it has racing pedigree.
