We're all used to placing Bentley into the same sentence with the railway, especially after the memorable 1930 adventure that saw company chairman Wolf Barnato beating Le Train Bleu in a race from Cannes to London. But what if a Bentley would become the train?
First of all, allow me to point out the idea isn't as crazy as it sounds. For one thing, people are turning Crewe machines into tanks nowadays and I'm talking about cold, hard metal, not renderings like the one that brought us here.
Secondly, the driving experience delivered by a Bentley does resemble that of a lavish train, from the stability and the comfort to the luxury of the interior.
Of course, convincing a, say, Continental GT to run on railroad tracks would require plenty of fabrication work, while the financial side of the project would be more of a nightmare than a dream.
Then there would be the matter of sorting out the routes, as one couldn't simply drop the Conti onto the track squeeze in between two express units.
However, the rendering mentioned above is the key here.
Coming from Feng Yixuan, a car design student who is aiming for a master's degree at the Wuhan University in China, this study was obviously intended as an automobile. And while those wheels clearly demand a road, this might've just been envisioned as an autonomous car, given the fact that its front section accommodates a bar.
But let's not get carried away - the size and shape of the thing might just recommend this as one's... private locomotive, albeit with the machine catering to one's entertainment rather than actual transportation needs. But hey, this would make a much more engaging toy than model trains, at least from the station I'm in.
Besides, it's not like Bentley is a complete stranger to having its name written on bits and pieces that go inside trains.
