Luxury car sales are a tricky business. Whenever a butterfly flaps its wings in India, Bentley stops selling cars. That’s basically why Crewe chose to make an SUV - to compliment sales of their most popular models, the GT coupe and GTC cabrio.
This summer, Bentley will take an extra-long shutdown of its production, but this is not because demand has dropped. A local newspaper has revealed that the true reason for next month’s closure is that the factory is preparing for SUV production.
A spokesperson has also dismissed rumors that Bentley is running short of Continental body shells, saying that the shutdown will "enable a number of facility changes in preparation for future productivity increases."
Bentley has revealed that the SUV will be offered with a 6.0-litre W12 engine which develops 600bhp and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. The new 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo will also be available with 500 bhp, and there should also be a hybrid V6 system.
