Bentley Continental GT3 to Make Race Debut in Abu Dhabi

Bentley’s new Continental GT3 race car, which was introduced at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, will make its competitive debut at the 2013 Gulf 12 Hours endurance race in Abu Dhabi on December 13, the British automaker revealed today.

According to Bentley's director of Motorsport, Brian Gush, the new race car has begun an intensive program of performance, setup and durability testing across Europe and has proven to be both fast and reliable in all track conditions.

“The car has performed extremely well so far, and has matched or exceeded our simulations in every respect. With 3000 km of testing completed already, the team is very pleased with progress and we’re gaining confidence in our package. We’re all looking forward to the Gulf 12 Hours in December and can’t wait to run the car against the competition for the first time in its first test race,” said Brian Gush, Bentley director of Motorsport.

The Bentley Continental GT3 is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that delivers 600 bhp. Many of its components are carried over from the road-going version, but the engine uses a carbon fiber propshaft and a six-speed sequential gearbox with a limited slip differential to send all that power to the rear wheels. The vehicle also features a double wishbone suspension configuration, four-way adjustable racing dampers, hydraulic power-assistance, and ventilated iron brake discs with six-piston calipers on the front and four-piston calipers on the rear.
