This year marks the 100th anniversary of Bentley, and as you’d expect, Mulliner came out with another special edition of the Continental GT. The soft-top convertible is the basis for the Number 1, inspired by the No. 1 Bentley Blower from 1929.
Limited to 100 examples of the breed, the special edition features the 6.0-liter W12 and two thumpin’ great turbochargers for good measure. In other words, look forward to 635 PS (626 horsepower) at 6,000 rpm and 900 Nm (664 pound-feet) between 1,350 and 4,500 rpm.
The fury under the hood translates to 3.7 seconds to 60 miles per hour and a top speed of 207 mph (333 km/h). Let those numbers sink in for a minute, then remember the Continental GT Convertible weighs 5,322 pounds (2,414 kilograms) before going through the options list.
Number 1 options are few and far between, namely the exterior color combinations of Dragon Red II or Beluga Black with a Claret Red or Beluga Black roof. The Black Line Specification comes standard along with the Carbon Body Kit, and yes, the fender badges are plated with 18k gold. The 22-inch wheels come in either Cricket Ball Brown or Gloss Black.
Step inside this luxurious grand tourer, and you’re treated to a wheel spinner-shaped emblem like none other. The specialness originates from the material of the emblem, which is cast from a piston of the No. 1 Bentley Blower's engine. Sitting within the rotating display, the wheel spinner is complemented by machine-turned metal on the center console and Alcantara.
The clock? That’s made by Jaeger, a luxury watchmaking company from Switzerland which produced the gauges for the 1930 Bentley Speed Six. Last, but certainly not least, the radiator grille features a white-painted 1 dead in the center to remind everyone how special this car is.
If you were wondering on what day Bentley celebrates the 100th anniversary, that would be July 10th. On that day, the Crewe-based luxury automaker plans to reveal the Centenary Concept.
