This June is set to be an important month for Bentley, with the British automaker confirming that it is set to come up with a new release on June 17.
We spoke to a Bentley source earlier today and were given the info, but this is where the mystery starts. We’re all expecting Bentley to bring us some new version of the Continental GT, since two prototypes wearing unusually large aerodynamic elements were spied on the Nurburgring more than once in the course of the current year.
Bentley claims that was just a test bed for aero components, but, like we said, the rumor mill points to the fact that the carmaker will introduce some sort of a driver’s edition for the Conti GT.
For instance, autocar published a piece on the matter earlier today, stating they expect Bentley to come up with “a flagship rear-wheel-drive performance version of the Continental GT at the Goodwood Festival of Speed”
Still, there are a lot of aspects here that need to be taken with a grain of salt. For instance, we are told the vehicle, which will be badged GT3, will link Bentley’s road cars to its racers. Going past the designation and the flagship bit, which may or may not be the actual one, the idea itself does make sense. After all, Bentley did recently return to GT racing, with its Continental GT3 already enjoying some wins.
Nonetheless, the aforementioned source states the upcoming Continental GT will ditch the four-wheel drive in order to save weight. While the vehicle will most likely be put on a diet. it doesn’t sound like Bentley to give us a RWD Conti, at least not with the current platform. Still, we do expect carbon fiber to be on the menu.
We’ll leave the salt cellar aside for the expected positioning of the model, as it does make sense for this to be a limited edition model.
