When it launched in 1984, the Breitling Chronomat was the symbol of a very active but still very luxurious lifestyle, usually worn by aviators. The mechanical timepiece is making a comeback, with help from longtime Breitling partner Bentley.
The Chronomat Bentley edition is a redesign of the original Chronomat, now rendered into an all-purpose sports watch. The same style elements from the iconic Chronomat are visible, in what is described as a stylish, 42-millimeter, mechanical timepiece that looks equally elegant on the red carpet and on all types of adventures.
The stainless steel case and steel Rouleaux bracelet make a contrasting note with the green dial with black accents, while the transparent sapphire glass caseback offers a good look at the heart of the piece. A Bentley engraving surrounds the caseback, marking this new collaboration between the two partners.
Designed as a symbol of “authentic, everyday luxury” for both men and women with an adventurous spirit, the Chronomat Bentley edition is powered by the in-house Breitling Caliber 01 with a 70-hour power reserve. It is water-resistant to 20 bar.
“The 1984 Chronomat occupies a very important place in our modern history,” Breitling CEO Georges Kern says in a press release. “The Chronomat Collection is a fitting tribute to the amazing watch that, more than any other, put us back in touch with our heritage.”
“Both Bentley and Breitling share illustrious heritages which have been the bedrock of future world-leading technological and design developments for our brands,” Adrian Hallmark, Bentley chairman and CEO, adds. “The new Chronomat Bentley exemplifies this commitment to honoring our authentic values while creating a new and enduring icon for today’s modern customers.’’
The Chronomat Bentley edition retails at $8,100 / €7,900 so as far as luxury watches go, it’s on the affordable side.
