Bentley launched the Mulsanne on the Chinese market this week, but the brand is focusing on expanding the Bentayga lineup.
The Bentayga is Bentley’s first SUV, and you already know that the optional equipment list can raise the price of such a vehicle to a prodigious amount.

The model is also Bentley’s first mass-market vehicle, designed to bring new customers to the brand. Together, the two characteristics of the Bentayga form a recipe for Bentley’s profits and success in the years to come.

However, launching the most expensive SUV currently available on the market and providing an extensive list of optional equipment is not going to cut it. After all, Rolls-Royce is closing in on the launch date of the “Cullinan,” and Bentley still needs to keep the Bentayga relevant and attractive on the market.

As we reported last summer, Bentley was testing a Speed version of the Bentayga. At the time, the prototype was being tested on the Nurburgring, the most demanding racetrack in the world. Now, the Bentayga Speed is close enough to its launch date that Bentley’s CEO confirmed the possibility of releasing such a model.

In an interview with the Brits at Auto Express, Durheimer replied to the question referring to the expansion of the Bentayga range as follows: “If you’re asking whether there would be Speed versions of the Bentayga eventually, then yes, you might expect that.” Mr. Durheimer’s statement did not provide a timeframe for the launch, nor did it fully confirm the Bentayga Speed as a production model.

Because Bentley eventually develops “Speed” versions of almost every model in their range, especially true when looking at the last few years, we can be sure that the brand from Crewe will not miss the opportunity of milking another cash cow, the luxury-performance SUV niche.

Along with the new Bentayga version, Mr. Durheimer also discussed the possibility of launching another SUV in the range. Like the Speed version of the former, the “baby-Bentayga” has also been under consideration for some time. However, so far, we have not seen any spy shots of the latter.
