What in the name of all things automotive possessed Bentley to develop a crossover SUV? After 2014 saw the British automaker sell more vehicles than ever, we'll pose the question “is the Bentayga necessary?”
Based on the latest spy photos, our carparazzi spotted a pre-production Bentayga that seems to have borrowed the radiator grille, headlights and front bumper of the pre-2015 facelift Conti GT. Round the rear we are able to spot a duo of oval-shaped exhaust pipes and a tow hitch, for crying out loud!
Spied in Northern Sweden, the pre-production Bentley Bentayga looks remarkably similar to the 2015 Audi Q7 from the side profile and it’s no wonder why - they’re sharing most of their underpinnings, together with the next-gen VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne.
Speaking of the future Cayenne, we hear that the Turbo S will boast with a higher top speed than the Bentley, LOL! A Porsche higher-up declared the aforementioned, so it’s no bogus. Alas, we pose the question again - is the Bentayga really necessary now?
Well, as long as there are people with bigger bank account balances than common sense and automotive know-how, the answer is yes. What’s really shameful is that despite its sheer fugliness and inferior top speed compared to the future Cayenne Turbo S’, the Bentayga is going to sell like hotcakes.
Then again, who in their right minds would want to do 320 km/h (200 mph) in an SUV on public roads and who would want to hitch a trailer to the Bentayga? This whole Bentayga grandstand play got us puzzled...
