The Bentley Bentayga is far from a cheap car wherever it is sold, but China has a reputation for having some of the most inflated tags in the world. It’s not the country’s fault, to be honest, but the manufacturers’ that are looking to make a quick buck off the newfound wealth of Chinese businessmen.
It’s a practice that had even the government look into it for a while and accusing Western companies of unfair practices. Well, Bentley is no exception and their new Bentayga SUV is probably one of the best examples in this regard.

In the US, the new car will cost at least $229,000 while in the UK the price kicks off at £160,200. Care to guess how much it will set you back if you live in China? You probably already know if you read the title: 3.98 million yuan, or $630,000 at the current exchange rates.

That’s an insane amount of money for a mass-production Bentley, but according to the British manufacturer, thousands of orders have already been placed. Since production is taking place in Europe, the Chinese market will only get a portion of the total output, but we can envision the Crewe-based company sending more of them to the Far East.

The launch of the car took place behind closed doors at a private VIP party in Beijing. The car put up on display was very well configured with a price tag of around $760,000, part of the “First Edition” range. These are the first cars that will arrive in China and will be delivered starting in April 2016.

That’s also a good estimate of how much a Bentayga will cost in China, as most customers will see fit to buy a plethora of optional features, the most expensive one being an in-dash clock that is rumored to cost over $150,000 all on its own.
