Bentley, as I’m sure you know by now, makes something called the Bentayga. As if the $231,825 starting price wasn’t opulent enough, Bentley now confirms that it has a sense of humor. Cue the Bentayga Fly Fishing by Mulliner, a very lush SUV for fishermen.
What’s wrong with this picture? I’ll tell you what. First and foremost, it reeks of fish. Trout, to be more specific. Also, who dresses up like a fisherman in a Bentley Bentayga? Thirdly, what kind of obnoxiously ignorant fool drives such an expensive SUV to the riverbank, scratching the paint on the way there?

Call me shortsighted or call me an Average Joe, but a Defender is more suited for the job. The last piece of my rant is represented by a very honest question: is fishing more pleasurable if it reads Mulliner on the reel?

I highly doubt that, but hey, that’s how the cookie crumbles in the realm of fat cats and overly eccentric Hollywood socialites. Don’t mind me, though. Here’s Geoff Dowding, the director of the Mulliner coachbuilding outfit, trying to explain what makes this fisherman’s special Bentley Bentayga tick:

“The Bentayga Fly Fishing car showcases the breadth and level of detail a customer can expect from Mulliner [...] Fly fishing is a sport that requires a variety of equipment and clothing, so it was essential to package the rods, reels, waders, boots and fly-tying station into the car in a luxurious, accessible and elegant way – and the end result is truly extraordinary.”

Rambling aside, I have to give it to Mulliner for a handful of details that come in hand for each and every type of Bentayga owner. Most of all, though, I admire that the boot floor and rear sill protection covers are waterproof and they’re neatly integrated into the rear of the Bentayga Fly Fishing by Mulliner.

I’d still use an old Land Rover Defender on a fishing trip, though.
