Benelli to Introduce a New Bike at EICMA

Benelli is teasing a new motorcycle that should break cover later this month in Milan, at EICMA. The info is as scarce as it gets, but we took a good look at the picture and we're putting our money on an adventure bike, or at least a scrambler-esque machine.

Benelli is a name older riders utter in reverence, as the historic Italian manufacturer was associated with road racing success back in the day. However, the last decades brought dismay for the Italian brand. The Chinese group Qianjiang bought Benelli and saved it from certain doom, but haven't been able to restore the former glory to its name and badge.

Many believe that under Chinese ownership Benelli is no longer making good use of the Italian design, development and craftsmanship as it did dozens of years before, and this is what prevents the brand's advent nowadays.

The truth is that many of the Benelli machines that have been manufactured lately have been plagued by various technical problems, both mechanical and electronic, and this wreaked havoc in the fans' support and trust.

A Benelli adventure machine to save the day?

The photo Benelli showed recently is not exactly revealing, but we looked at the tires and they seem to be knobbies, possibly the good-old Continental TKC 80 choice, even though the front tire does not look very TKC 80-ish.

Anyway, the wheels come with wire spokes, and this speaks about the off-road-ready nature of the bike. The generic lines of this Benelli bring the Honda NCX design language into mind, and this makes us believe that the new machine will not be one inspired by the classic scramblers.

We'd rather put our money on a middleweight adventure machine, even though a liter-class (or bigger) one cannot be dismissed, either. Stay tuned for more, as we head for Milan soon.
