Ben Spies to Race Custom Drag Ducati Diavel at Indianapolis

If you're in Indianapolis and already have your tickets for the weekend race, then you're in for quite a nifty treat this Thursday, as Pramac Ducati's Texas star Ben Spies will be drag racing a custom Ducati Diavel on the back straight of the Brickyard.

Part of a charity event with all proceeding going towards Spies' friend injured rider Dave Stanton, the drag race will be a nifty warm-up for the Texas Terror prior to properly returning to MotoGP racing, a thing he missed for no less than 7 rounds due to incompletely recovered injuries.

The Ducati Diavel was prepped by Advanced Motorsports Ducati (AMD) Dallas and uses 1089R engine internals, such as titanium rods and valves,higher-compression pistons and matching machined heads, better lift cams and crankshaft. The modded engine now delivers 170 HP, a hefty 25 hike from stock trim.

Rizoma provided all the aftermarket upgrades: "carbon-fiber headlight fairing, machined aluminum handlebars and grips, bar-end-caps, brake and clutch levers, gas cap, clutch, master-cylinder and waterpump covers, axle protection and EVO foot controls," as Cycle World reports.

The tri-color paint scheme is obviously Texas-themed and Ben Spies will also sign the bike. The Spies Diavel will be auctioned at the 2013 AIMExpo in Orlando, Florida later this fall. The present value of the bike with all components and modding is around $30,000 (€22,560).
