It shouldn't come as a surprise if we tell you about Johnny Knoxville being a huge fan of Evel Knievel. The Jackass star has obviously taken inspiration from some of Evel's amazing, death-defying stunts and overall attitude and let them loose in a more twisted form in MTV's popular (dumb) stunt series.
It's now time for Johnny Knoxville to deliver a serious documentary on his idol. Being Evel is, judging by this trailer, one of the most interesting documentaries on the daredevil icon of the past century. With Knoxville's outspoken admiration for Evel Knievel, we can expect a more detailed and in-depth image of the life and achievements of this American legend.
It's just fast, faster and disaster
"I didn't think of Evel Knievel as a daredevil, I thought of him as a superhero. Nobody ever went for it like that before... It's a crazy story, it's just fast, faster and disaster," Knoxville says about Evel.
The documentary also includes a lot of testimonies from people who knew Evel. As Knoxville admits, even though he grew up in the '70s watching Knievel's moments of glory and failures, he didn't know the story behind the man.
This led him to try and reveal who was really behind the "mad man" character and tell a more complex story than anyone attempted so far. The documentary also includes both people from Evel's glory era and present-day athletes who have found inspiration in his work.
Being Evel premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and will also be present at the New Zealand International Film Festival from mid-July to August. No firm date for public release is yet announced. Enjoy!
