Behold, the Tesla Drone Is Here... As a Concept, for Now

It was about time someone would imagine a UAV inspired by the Tesla Model S that eco-conscious drivers could use to film their Ludicrous mode sessions. After all, isn’t Elon Musk’s premium EV all about ground-breaking design, counter-fighting range anxiety and futuristic technology?

That’s pretty much what industrial designer Fraser Leid is after with his newest project. He claims the name comes from the company synonymous with battery efficiency. The creator of the Tesla Drone also wanted to stray away from convention in terms of design, thus configuring a new twin blade arrangement that allows the propellers to act as the drone camera’s stabilizer. Therefore, a gimbal is no longer required for video stability.

If the operator requires the drone for slow, wide-angled panoramic videos, the propellers in a vertical configuration will allow the drone to move slowly and steadily. If the operator needs the drone for fast-paced, low-angled action video’s, the propellers in a horizontal configuration will make the drone nimble, quick and easy to handle at faster speeds, while also steadying the camera,” Leid details.

In the designer’s vision, the Tesla Drone incorporates twin carbon GlideLite blades that maximize lift and propulsion in any given scenario. Similar to other crafts of the kind, this drone also has a dock that doubles as a wireless charging station. If the design failed to trigger your interest, then the 60-minute battery range sure will. Not to mention that it takes 20 minutes to get it back on full capacity.

No gizmo of the kind is complete without a proper filming device. In this case, we’re looking at a wide-angled 30 Megapixel camera with 4K video recording capabilities. All in all, this concept is here to “define innovation by rejecting reason” and we wouldn’t be surprised to one day find it on the shelves of your favorite gizmo shop.
