Behold the Bentley EXP 100 GT, the Luxury Grand Tourer for the Year 2035

Big. Luxurious big. These are perhaps the best words to describe the latest concept car unveiled on Wednesday (July 10) by British luxury marque Bentley as it celebrates its centenary: the EXP 100 GT.

Designed as a car for the future – Bentley says we should see something like this on the road in the year 2035 – the EXP 100 GT brings to bare all the usual Bentley design and engineering expertise with a single purpose: to impress.

And this car is impressive.

The body of the GT is huge, measuring 5.8 meters in length and 2.4 meters in width. The passenger doors alone take up 2 meters of the car’s body, and as they open by pivoting out and up to give the car a total height of nearly three meters.

As usual in a Bentley, a wealth of pretentious materials, some of which unheard of in the industry, have been used in creating the car. All of them, say the Brits, are eco-friendly.

Somehow, with the help of a British organization, Bentley got its hands on Riverwood that is 5,000 years old. They infused the material with copper and splashed it around the cabin.

For the exterior paint, called Compass, the carmaker used recycled rice husks, while on the inside the leather-like textile is fully organic and sourced from by-products of wine-making.

Powering the GT is an electric powertrain whose range dwarfs nearly anything else devised so far: 700 km (434 miles). Four motors pull and push on the car to give it an acceleration time of 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 300 kph (186 mph).

The GT is fully autonomous, relying on artificial intelligence for everything it does. This AI is more of an electronic butler, if you like, whose main mission is the “well-being and comfort” of the passengers.

The EXP 100 GT is meant to mark the start of Bentley’s second century. It will not be made anytime soon, or probably never, but it marks yet another look into how the motoring world of tomorrow might look like.
