Several short clips, a couple of trailers and some first look videos were released in a huge marketing effort to make Furious 7 the most expected action movie of this year. Since we’re quite certain you guys have seen them all already, we’ll assume you agree when we’re saying that the scene when the gang is being parachuted along with their cars off an airplane is by far the best scene. Guess what, it really happened.
Weeks before the seventh installment of the Fast and Furious saga hits the theaters, Universal Studious drops yet another video. As opposed to most of the others, this time we’re looking at some sort of a behind-the-scenes clip. The video basically explains how the fleet of tuned cars reversed out of the back of an airborne Lockheed C-130 Hercules aircraft before parachuting onto a road below.
In the video, stunt coordinators Andy and Jack Gill claim that the cars really did jump off the military airplane at around 12,000 feet with the parachutes opening at about 5,000 feet.
In order to get the best frames and the best shots on camera, they used three camera flyers and a helicopter. Some obviously high-tech lenses were used since the vehicles were free falling at a speed of around 130 to 140 mph (209 to 225 km/h). 0 to 100 real quick?
After you go behind the scenes of the C-130 drop watching the video below, remember that some of the rare breeds you see in the movie will most likely end up in the scrapyard. Just a thought.
