BBR officials state that this program is the result of intense research and development on the all-new SkyActive engine, and it delivers astonishing power gains across the rev range with no loss of drivability.
The entry level modification for the engine, called BBR Super 160, gives the 1.5 liter mill an increase of 20bhp and 15 lb. ft of torque, peaking at 158bhp right up to the 7,700 rpm limiter, making the little sports car easier and faster to drive. Camshaft, ignition timing and fueling were also optimized across the entire rev range.

The BBR Super 175+ package for the 2.0-liter model delivers worthwhile performance and drivability improvements, giving the MX5 an extra 17bhp, with an additional 17bhp on tap at 6800rpm.

Both these packages are available for all variants of the Mazda MX5 onwards, costing from £495 including installation, and a DIY version supplied with programming software and OBD lead is available for £595.

The third package is called BBR Super 190 and is available only for the 2.0 liter, having been designed for complete forward compatibility with further BBR engine upgrades.

The Super 190 package includes improvements to the cold air intake system, an optimized exhaust manifold, high flow stainless steel welded exhaust with integrated sports catalyst, and a grand tourer stainless steel rear silencer with adjustable twin branded tailpipes.

As the name suggests, this package will give the 2.0-liter engine 190 bhp, 30 more than the stock one. Maybe it doesn’t sound so much, but you have to think that the car is weighing less than 1,000 kg.

When it comes to suspension upgrades, the BBR Super 190 package includes high-performance dynamic springs, which combine a 30mm reduction in ride height with a progressing rising rate design. It can be had for £1,995, but there is also a DIY version (manifold supplied on an exchange basis) including programming/diagnostic software and OBD lead, which costs £1,795.

For a better braking performance, the tuner offers a replacement set of high-performance fast road and track front brake pads developed with one of the Europe’s leading braking component specialists.

BBR also has a full range of lightweight alloy wheels and tire packages available for order, including the OZ/Goodyear F1 combination.

A very important thing to mention is that these conversions are fully reversible, completely MOT emissions compliant, and retain the Mazda factory electronic fail-safes.
