For those for whom the regular Mazda MX-5 is not enough of a man’s car, BBR (Brodie Britain Racing) has developed a supercharger kit, which will boost the power figure considerably. It is available for made from 2005 onward, with 1.8- or 2.0-liter engines.
The Cosworth-based system has been in development for the last 12 months, in order to make it perfectly compatible with any of the engine variants. Along with the kit, BBR also replaces the ‘piggy back’ Interceptor control unit, with a remapped unit from Starchip.

The ‘Stage 1’ kit, offered by BBR gives you an Eaton MP62 Supercharger, intercooler, remapped ECU, high-flow injectors and a sports air filter. It brings 1.8-liter cars power outputs up to 217 hp, and torque up to 238 Nm (+93 hp/ 72 Nm). When fitted to 2.0-liter cars, it gives an additional 77 hp or 83 hp, depending on engine spec, bringing the total power figure up to 235 hp or 241 hp, while also increasing torque by 69 Nm.

Stage 2 is even more impressive, as it gives the 1.8-liter engined cars an additional 107 hp, bringing the total output 231 hp, or 252 and 258 hp for the 2.0-liter models. It costs £6,395 ($10,250) when fitted at the BBR factory, or it can be shipped as a kit, for £5,455 ($8,743). The Stage 1 kit is a bit more affordable, costing £4,995 ($8,005) at the factory, or £4,295 ($6,880) as a shippable kit.
