BBC Sorry for Jenson Button's Live Swearing

Jenson Button may have been crowned world champion of Formula One, but the Brit did not have any problem saying the F-word during a post-race conversation with Mark Webber, following the season finale at Abu Dhabi. Although he didn't use the aforementioned word as a way of showing his frustration – it was a casual conversation with the Red Bull driver – the words exchange between the two was broadcasted live by the BBC.

BBC currently holds the rights to broadcast the Formula One action, this being their first year after ITV lost those rights at the end of last year.

Button and Webber are known to be very good friends in the F1 paddock, and the conversation between them after the podium ceremony was not at all conflictual. The two simply exchanged opinions on their last lap battle for the runner-up spot, which Webber eventually managed to maintain until the chequered flag.

Although Button was the one to say the word, it was the BBC who later apologized for their showing the conversation live. And it's only natural to do that – we'd like to add – as the two were engaged in a private conversation.

It was a live broadcast which showed a conversation between two individuals and in the heat of the moment Jenson Button swore, and it was unfortunately picked up on air. We apologise for any offense caused and we apologized immediately on air after it happened. It is part and parcel of live broadcasts,” said a spokesman for the BBC.

Webber and Button finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the former completing Red Bull's 4th 1-2 of the season behind teammate Sebastian Vettel.
