Even though Top Gear star Jeremy Clarkson kept everything clean and nice ever since racial scandals made the British celebrity risk his career at BBC, director Danny Cohen says nobody is higher than the television itself. BBC’s boss claims Clarkson and him had a very clear discussion about the situation, suggesting that famous TV presenter is still facing firing.
Director of BBC TV Danny Cohen once again outlined his disagreement with the way Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson used politically incorrect gaffes. Cohen told journalists, during a press conference in Edinburgh quoted by Radio Times, that Clarkson is not “untouchable.”
BBC TV director said: “It’s like football clubs - no one’s bigger than the club and that’s why I was so clear in public and private that I was unhappy with it and wouldn’t accept it. No one show or person is bigger than the BBC and that’s the way I see it.”
In case you guys haven’t read the news lately, Cohen was referring to Clarkson’s politically incorrect words - the host’s use of the racially-offensive word “slope” in Burma Top Gear special and his apparent mumbling of the N-word in a unbroadcast sequence.
Clarkson’s attitude would have allegedly impact the show and that is something that will not be accepted. “I was very clear in public and in private that I was incredibly unhappy with his language. I have made that extremely clear and Jeremy knows that that will impact on the way the show is thought about in the future.”
It’s not our place to say who’s right and who’s wrong, but we just hope Clarkson won’t be fired and the show will go on as it is, because we really like watching it.
