BBC and Eurosport UK Announce MotoGP Coverage in 2009

Dorna, official promoter of the FIM Road-Racing World Championship, announced that both the British Eurosport and BBC channels have earned the coverage rights of the MotoGP action in 2009.

As part of the new deal, Eurosport will get to broadcast all practice sessions on Friday and Saturday, the 125cc and 250cc races and delayed coverage of the MotoGP race on Sunday. Live commentary will be provided by Toby Moody, Julian Ryder and Randy Mamola, same as before. This has put an end to all rumors regarding a potential rupture between Dorna and Eurosport ahead of the 2009 season.

In addition, the BBC have completed their coverage plan for this year's MotoGP. As in the case of their F1 coverage, the British broadcaster announced the introduction of a Red Button service, whose function will be to provide the fans with coverage of the qualifying sessions for all 3 classes of the FIM WC, plus the 125cc and 250cc races.

In addition, the viewers will have the opportunity to watch post-race analysis of the MotoGP action via the same Red Button interactive service.

“The BBC Red Button will allow viewers to watch qualifying, then the 125cc and 250cc races and all the post-race reaction and interviews on MotoGP Extra. All the action will also be available on the BBC Sport website (UK users only) so you can watch the races if you cannot get to a TV. Or if you missed the race or simply just want to watch it again you can do so on our iPlayer service for seven days after it has happened,” said a report on the BBC website last week.

“Suzi Perry will be presenting with commentary coming from Steve Parrish and Charlie Cox and pit lane reports from Matt Roberts,” added the report.
