Trucks aren't Europe's thing, especially not fast ones with big engines. Before VW made the Amarok, you pretty much had to buy a Toyota or a Mitsubishi with an underpowered diesel engine.
But the American dream is slowly taking over, as more and more people see this as a unique form of transportation, a statement piece of their car collection. And what statement could possibly be bigger than an F-150 Raptor?
Now, this is by no means the only fast pickup ever made. However, the branding surrounding the Raptor is amazing, so amazing that Ford decided to branch out with a smaller Ranger Raptor model.
With a 0 to 62mpg (100km/h) time of over 10 seconds and a pedestrian top speed, the Raptor is hardly what drag racing dreams are made of. Yet we still find it deeply appealing, so it pains us to show yet another drag race video where it loses badly.
In the previous one, Carwow revealed how the four-cylinder diesel engine Ford fitted was no match for the V6 units in the VW Amarok and Mercedes X-Class. But today, we've got an all-Ford event for you, and it's by no means a fair fight.
The star of the show is a current-generation F-150 Raptor, boasting not only a bi-turbo V6 engine, but also tuning from Sutton which takes the numbers up to 520 HP and 698 pound-feet (946 Newton-meters) of torque (from 450 HP and 51 lb-ft). The old Raptor is here too, packing its 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8. The Mustang of trucks makes 411 horsepower, which is still double what the baby truck has.
In case you're curious, an F-150 Raptor with the turbo V6 and RHD conversion like the one in the video sold for GBP 82,000. You could get a lot of sports car for the money, but as Hammond pointed out, this is a better way to have a mid-life crisis.
