Five days ago, Hoonigan teased us about a racing competition involving two teams and six drivers. The two teams' captains were Ken Block and BJ Ballistic Baldwin, with Ryan Kibbe and Justin Oquendo joining the former, and Chris Forsberg and Dustin Jones the latter.
The preview video set the stage for what was about to happen - not that having two people like Block and Baldwin left any room for doubt. Plus, we also knew the vehicles the six drivers were going to use: they were Can-Am Maverick X3s.

These really tough mosquitos come with turbocharged 900cc three-cylinder engines producing 154 horsepower that can be sent to all four wheels on demand. They also have "mad travel, yo," which will shortly become apparent in the video. If you're the numbers kind of guy, "mad" would equal 20 inches (or 50.8 centimeters) on both front and rear axles.

The Maverick X3 is the kind of vehicle that begs to be driven mercilessly, and that's because it can easily take the punishment. With that kind of suspension travel and FOX 2.5 PODIUM Piggyback shock absorbers with QS3 compression adjustment (yeah, we copied that from the specs sheet), the driver too will be able to withstand it without losing vertebrae in the process.

It has to be said from the off that at least as far as the captains are concerned, Team Baldwin holds the advantage here. There aren't that many similarities between a Can-Am Maverick X3 and an 800 hp Trophy Truck, but they are still closer than Block's vehicles of choice are.

The rugged terrain is also to BJ's advantage, but you don't see Ken complaining about it. Hell, if I were asked to fill in for Block, even I wouldn't say a word about it. So what if you don't win? You still get to have tons of fun.

And it did look like a riot. We still don't understand how the driver in the car at the back managed to breathe through those clouds of dust, but as long as everyone made it out without a respiratory failure, that means they found a way. Watch the clip, enjoy it, see who won, but first, listen to the best part: Hoonigan promises it will turn this into a series, so there will be more Battle Broyales in the future. Is this going to be the crazy US version of the Race of Champions?
