Automotive logic in the premium segment dictates that when a new model is launched, you show the really cool powertrains first and only later add the boring, cheap ones. It seems the same strategy used by Audis or BMWs also applies to the latest Porsche model, the Macan.
At launch, this new, more affordable Porsche SUV has been mad available only with V6 engines, either for S or Turbo models. The downsize to this is that the cheapest Macan is more expensive than the base Cayenne, which is quite perplexing.

But we knew all along a four-cylinder was coming to the range, and according to Auto Express, it will be available in late 2014. “I can’t tell you the exact month, but sometime in 2014, perhaps at the end,” said Dr Thomas Casper, manager of transmission and drivetrain development, when asked about the four-cylinder Macan during an interview.

Since the Macan is a volume car, a volume engine should be used. As such, the 2.0 TFSI from Audi is the only choice. At least that's our best guess, considering what the VW Group parts has to offer.

The 2.0-liter R4 from the EA888 has DOHC, water-cooled turbocharger incorporated in exhaust manifold, sandwiched central front-mounted intercooler and direct injection. In the Audi S3 and Golf GTI, it produces 300 PS and 360 Nm of torque, but could be detuned for more everyday usability.
