Base Jumper Rides Motorcycle Off 1000m Cliff

The video you are about to see is all about a different approach to promote tourism and we cannot but salute the idea. As part of the so-called BASE project in Los Andes, Chile, paratrooper Julio Munoz performed an extraordinary feat earlier this month: he jumped 1,000m (3,280 feet) from a cliff, while riding a 450cc motorbike.

The 37-year-old daredevil let the bike loose just seconds after he soared off the ramp, with the two-wheeled machine left to crash into the rocks below. Munoz only opened his parachute 61m (200feet) from the ground and landed safely.

Naturally, this involved intense and long-term preparations, which the Chilean has performed over a period of three years. The final pre-stunt work was performed in two months, during which he has had the help of a total of 25 people. This, however, was a costly affair, as it required no less then $100,000. The feat was documented using 12 digital cameras, and made use of a half-ton ramp.

"On the way to the ramp, I was focused on adjusting the speed on the bike,"
Munoz said to Sky News. "When I left the ramp and I'm flying, when I'm in the middle, that's where I really feel comfortable - in the air."

Munoz said that the idea was "to discover Chile, have more contact with nature and to be able to open up sails a bit".

"We think discovering South America through jumps is a good way to show our part of the world," he continued. "The main motivation was that I found a group of friends who had the energy and the desire and the professionalism in their fields to develop this project. This was the result, a good jump with no problems."
