Base Jumper Felix Baumgartner Buys a KTM

The world's most famous base jumper, Felix Baumgartner, recently paid a visit to the Red Bull factory in Mattighofen. Baumgartner came to pick up his new motorcycle, a KTM 990 Superbike R, however not without fully inspecting it first.

The master jumper arrived by helicopter, met with KTM motorsport director Pit Beirer and then moved on to inspect his new ride, which he hopes would provide him with some great sensations before finding another location from which he can jump in 2010.

“In the Red Bull factory, the KTM MX Factory Team mechanics are working on the latest factory cross bikes when the the loud sound of a helicopter suddenly breaks the silence of concentration. KTM motorsport director Pit Beirer only just has time to clear the car park and send out a mechanic into the icy snow drifts to act as a living beacon when an elegant silver helicopter lands in the middle of the yard just moments later,” KTM describes the first moments from Baumgartner’s visit.

Felix Baumgartner, 40, was the first person to cross the entire English Channel in freefall, he jumped from the statue of Christ in Rio de Janeiro and he leaped off the Taipei 101 skyscraper in Taipei.

“It's easy to imagine that this man with the 'Born to fly' underarm tattoo and muscular, well-build body earns his living as a professional flyer for Red Bull. His jumps, death-defying deeds and landing adventures could easily fill several volumes of books,” KTM praises Baumgartner.
