Barrichello Tips Senna with F1 Future

Rubens Barrichello might be on a high horse at the moment – after securing an F1 seat for another season – but he reckons things are just about the opposite when it comes to Bruno Senna. Linked with a 3-year deal with Brawn GP during the winter, the GP2 runner-up received a blow last week when Ross Brawn revealed he has extended Barrichello's deal for another season.

Although admitting he has never thought about losing his seat to Senna through the winter – naming the rumors that spawn those reports as simply “absurd” – the F1 veteran admitted he tried to contact his fellow Brazilian in order to wish him all the well. More, Barrichello insisted that Senna's resume so far – considering he has been racing for such a short period of time – qualifies him for a future in Formula 1.

“I tried to ring him (now) and have left a message on his answering machine. I wish him all the very best. For someone who has three or four years of experience, he has done fantastically well and he has a future in formula one,” said Barrichello yesterday, following Brawn GP's first test in Barcelona.

A few days earlier, following the official announcement of the new Brawn GP team, the Brazilian driver revealed he had chosen silence over F1 rumors throughout the winter, as he was quite positive he would retain his Honda role in 2009.

“My friends, the last four months I preferred silence. There were people saying I was finished, saying nobody wanted me, and even someone who said Bruno Senna signed for three years, an absurd attempt of a desperate (reporter) to write without any basis or source. What is important is that I relied on my faith, I worked hard physically and only talked with the team's staff,” said Barrichello on his official site, as reported by GMM news agency.

Barrichello is due to make his debut with Ross Brawn's BGP 001 tomorrow, at Circuit de Catalunya.
