Barrichello Tips Brawn GP for Aussie Win

Brawn GP should not be counted out when speaking about race wins this season! Of course, this is not us talking – not that we don't agree – but F1 veteran Rubens Barrichello. Talking to Spanish newspaper Marca, the Brazilian driver insisted that considering him or teammate Jenson Button for the Aussie win next weekend is far from “madness”.

“No, it is not madness. I have waited a long time to find a team that gives me the conditions of Ferrari but the freedom to not have to race only for Schumacher. This is the first time I have had what I have always wanted, it's a little bit of pressure but I am right where I want to be,” argued Barrichello for the aforementioned source, as reported by GMM news agency.

The car developed by Brawn GP during the winter showed consistent pace during the last 2 testing sessions, being a common front-runner within the F1 pack at both Barcelona and Jerez. Button actually scored an incredible lap time at Barcelona during the 3rd day of testing 2 weeks ago, as the British drivers was clocked in over a second faster that the previous circuit record (in testing), set by Robert Kubica last year.

In addition, Barrichello revealed that the uncertainty of his F1 future during the winter, when Bruno Senna was tipped to take his place in the Honda/Brawn GP cockpit for the new season, only made him a stronger driver. Although the new BGP 001 will not incorporate the newly-developed Kinetic Energy Recovery System (at least in the first few races) in 2009, the F1 veteran admitted he has lost around 5 kilos. That will certainly help his mechanics with the ballast distribution ahead of the Aussia GP, therefore an extra point for Barrichello.

“They were difficult months, but they are the moments in which you learn about how to be a better person,” said the Brazilian, when referring to the past winter. “I knew there was a chance, so I maintained my physical condition and I even lost five kilos. Everything was fine and luckily, in the end, I signed the contract,” added Barrichello.
