Barrichello Says Massa Has Not Changed Since the Crash

Rubens Barrichello doesn't think the long absence from the sport has changed Felipe Massa very much. Although the Ferrari driver made some interesting comments regarding the crash-gate and new teammate Fernando Alonso in recent days, his Brazilian friend believes it was only something blown out of proportions by the media.

According to the Brawn GP driver, any driver that has been out of the Great Circle for a long time and suddenly comes back may be subject to media exaggeration. Everything they say suddenly becomes more important, which is exactly what happened to Felipe these past few weeks. Every news about Massa or comments made by him made the headlines in recent months.

In Formula One if you're not travelling with everyone all the time and not hearing what the same people are talking about, you just get different ideas and maybe you're flying on your own ideas,” Barrichello told reporters in Brazil, prior to the Interlagos event this weekend.

He's been out for a month and then he comes back in and talks about something and it becomes a lot more important. For me it's just the fact that he's been out and not living the world that we're living in,” added the Brawn GP driver.

Barrichello also expressed his excitement over Massa's quick recovery, as the Brazilian recently showed that he drives as competitive as before when in an F1 machinery. Following his Ferrari F2007 test earlier this week, Massa showed some impressive pace on the Fiorano track.

After I saw him with my own eyes and I saw that he was the same, I wished that he could drive the same way, and he went to Fiorano and did that. From all the people that I've spoken to and to himself, it looked like he got into the car and on the third lap he was on the pace,” added Barrichello.
