Barrichello was heard on the radio (during the race) characterizing his Sunday ride at the Istanbul Otodrom as being “outrageous” and revealed, shortly after the Turkish Grand Prix, that he had to overcome another clutch problem with his car. The Brazilian driver eventually pitted into his team’s garage some 10 laps to the finish line, recording his first DNF of the season.
“I had clutch trouble at the start, the same as Australia -- it was the wrong calculation for the clutch once again on my side. Then the engine limiter was coming in on the straights and I couldn't overtake. I'm not criticizing the team but I think we have to be more careful with my stuff. The bad luck seems to be happening too much on my side,” said Barrichello.
He also insisted that he hasn’t lost faith in this year’s campaign, as he knows he has the same ability to drive the BGP 001 to victory as teammate Jenson Button.
“Right now I am pissed off with the situation but tomorrow is another day. I cannot see him (Button) running away. All our three years together we were so fair and square, so I don't see him better now and winning every race this season. At some point there will be a drop and I want to be there to conquer,” added the Brazilian driver.
Barrichello’s disappointing performance in Turkey cost him another 10 points in the overall classification, where he is now 26 points behind Button. Thanks to his win at Istanbul, Button has now matched Michael Schumacher’s record of 6 wins in the opening 7 rounds of a Formula One season.
