Barrichello Confirms Retirement Thoughts

Either it's because his relationship with Brawn GP is obviously going the wrong way or he's disappointed with his form in 2009, Rubens Barrichello for the first time admitted he is thinking about retiring from Formula One.

Talking to the media before the Hungarian Grand Prix this weekend, the Brazilian revealed the thought of retirement does go through his head midway through the 2009 campaign. However, he insisted the ratio between the positive and negative feelings about that decision is widely in favor of him continuing in the sport.

I love the sport, I've been doing this for 17 years. 95 per cent of my feelings are to keep on. I love it, I have a lot of speed in myself, but five per cent tells me 'why do you need it? It's something that's on my mind, even though it's only five per cent, but next year is too far away for me to decide anything,” admitted the F1 veteran.

Midway through his 17th consecutive season in Formula One, Barrichello can proudly say he has won 9 races in 280 starts, while also recording some massive 66 podiums (most of which happened during his Ferrari era).

Talking about this year's chances of finally becoming world champion, Barrichello reckoned it will be hard to catch teammate Jenson Button on top of the standings, but remains optimistic for the remaining rounds of 2009. In addition, writing on his twitter page earlier this week, he insisted he does not hold anyone back at Brackley responsible for his poor result in Germany.
