Barons Holds Impressive Christmas Classic Car Auction

The British Barons auction house announced that it managed to hold an impressive Yuletide Sale at Santdown Park, on December 7.

A total of 44 cars found new owners just in time for the enthusiasts to enjoy their vehicles for Christmas. The lot included multiple special machines, so it's hard to name just a few stars. However, the highest bid was achieved by a 1959 Aston Martin DB MKIII DHC - the vehicle you see in the adjacent image. The elegant automotive creation has been owned by a single family since it was three years old and was sold for GBP175,500 ($276.700 or EUR209,800).

Another model that has to be mentioned, even though it is further down the price scale, is the "time warp" 1970 MKI Ford Escort Delux, which only has 2,600 miles on its odometer. The vehicle was sold for GBP8,950 ($14,150 or EUR10,700), over double its estimate.

We'll also mention an Aston Martin DB MKII, a restoration project, which was offered as a rolling shell with multiple boxes containing the removed parts. The vehicle was sold for GBP70,000 ($110,700 or EUR83,700).

Our Yuletide Sale is always popular, and I know that at least a couple of the lots are destined to be surprise Christmas presents for some very lucky enthusiasts. The result shows that not even the worst of the weather can keep buyers away if the cars on offer are attractive enough,” said Barons’ MD, Laurence Sayers-Gillan.

Of course, there must be cars there to buy, and our decision to open the Surrey Hall a day early proved a good one. Just one entry was withdrawn, in spite of the snow and ice, and we thank those vendors who brought their cars on the Sunday, thus avoiding the rush on Monday morning. With 65% of the cars on offer sold, this was an excellent result and brings 2010 to very healthy close.
