Bahrain GP Officials Insist Event Is Out of Danger

Bahrain Grand Prix officials have insisted that the good running of the 2011 Formula 1 event will not be affected by the recent turmoil in the country.

In recent days, fears were raised in the country about the prospect of the season opening F1 round being called off due to anti-government protests lately. After at least 3 persons were killed following clashes between protesters and the police in the last week, it was believed the former party will use the Bahrain Grand Prix to make their cause heard worldwide.

Bernie Ecclestone himself admitted, in a recent interview with the Daily Telegraph, that he is yet to hold talks with representatives in Bahrain in order to get a better idea on how the situation presents itself. However, he stopped short from making any predictions.

Now the CEO of the Bahrain International Circuit, Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa, stepped in and tried to calm people down, insisting that the March-scheduled round is not in any way endangered by the political clashes in the country.

The safety of all Bahraini nationals, expats and overseas visitors is a priority at all times in the Kingdom and, at the Bahrain International Circuit, our focus at the present time is on delivering another successful event in the form of the 2011 Gulf Air Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix,” said the Bahraini official.

We are monitoring the situation very closely indeed in association with the relevant authorities, and will respond appropriately to any further developments,” he added in the statement.
