Bagged Golf 6 GTI on Rotiform Wheels Is a Big Marlboro Commercial

We're counting down the months before the big reveal of the Golf 8, and the GTI version of that has already been spied. However, people still seem to enjoy the classic Golf 6 GTI with the help of some creative mods, of course.

The Mk6 is derived from the Mk5. Rumor has it that Volkswagen wasn't making any money on the Golf, so it tried to simplify the assembly process. It doesn't feel cheaper, though, and the GTI is quite popular thanks to the variety of custom parts you can buy.

For the GTI, the update also meant a bit more horsepower, as it made 211 HP as standard. That was enough for 2009, and we always found this generation of the 2.0 TSI sounds better than the models that followed. You can go to APR or Revo for some crazy output increases, but most people are more interested in the way their hatch looks and sounds.

Take this bad boy as an example. It's one of the cars that caught our eye at this year's Worthersee GTI meet, thanks to a combination of cool wheels and a unique wrap. You really can't miss the big Malboro logos and livery. Obviously, it's meant to look like a classic race car from the era where cigarette brands made the big money and people were less concerned about their health.

We know some folks might find this offensive, but you should treat it like a piece of modern art, meant to provoke an emotional reaction. Also, the Rotiform disc wheels are pretty cool, sitting deep inside those arches thanks to air suspension.

Owner Mike (m.bagged.mk6) has made some other mods, including the front bumper from a Golf R, new exhaust and taillights plus a full roll cage replacing the rear sits. It's a 2-door, so they weren't getting much use anyway.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
