When it comes to passenger cars, few automakers can put up a fight against Kia. The 7-year warranty comes at no extra cost to the owner, translating to 2,555 days or 100,000 miles of trouble-free motoring. If a compact hatchback such as the Cee’d offers such an unbeatable proposition, the expectations are high for a military vehicle in this day and age. And boy, Partisan Motors doesn’t fail to impress.
Dubbed Partisan One, the concept pictured in the gallery is the brainchild of Russian engineer and designer Juri Postnikov. Touted as a military SUV, the two-box design appears to have been sketched with nothing more than a pencil and a ruler. Laugh all you want, but there’s some sense to the One’s boxiness.
The “deliberate primitivism of appearance” is an “absolutely conscious” decision from the One’s maker, with Postnikov claiming that he has created “the best car for the world's worst roads.” The design’s simplicity makes it easy for modernization throughout its life, with Partisan Motors claiming that the One could serve in the military 50 years without requiring a replacement.
When all is said and done, the most impressive promise comes in the form of the “100-year warranty on the entire car in addition to its wearing parts.” Where do you see yourself in 100 years’ time? While Postnikov didn’t offer any explanation about this mind-boggling warranty, it’s worth remembering that 100 years overshadows the life expectancy in the U.S. (approx. 79 years).
The One also happens to be extremely clever and capable. When equipped with an unspecified turbo diesel engine and large fuel tanks, the boxy military vehicle offers a driving range of anything between 1,000 and 1,500 kilometers, which converts to 621 to 932 miles. Full-electric power and hybridization are also possible, but there’s more to the Partisan One Concept than meets the eye.
“In addition to the short-wheelbase three-door and long-span five-door versions, pickup trucks with single and double cabins and different bases, versions of 6x6 and eight-wheel-drive four-wheel drive chassis for special road conditions have been developed.” It will be interesting to see if Dr. Postnikov’s creation will make it to production, and if it will, which of the world’s armies would buy such a weirdly fascinating contraption.
