The accident occurred on Friday, when a bike carrying mother, father and baby crashed into a scooter they had tried to overtake on the left side. You can see it at the bottom of the page, courtesy of the Bengaluru Police.

The impact is so strong that the woman and the man on the bike are sent through the air. The rider on the scooter also falls off. The baby remains perched on the gas tank of the bike, which surprisingly rolls on for a considerable distance.

It avoids crashing into a truck in front and veers to the right, before crashing into the road divider and throwing the baby into the bushes. As drivers and other riders rush to the scene, having witnessed the accident and its surprise followup, one man is seen picking up the child from the bushes and walking off with him.

Not only is the baby alive but he doesn’t seem injured at all. Reports in the local media say that neither mother nor father were seriously harmed either.

Still, that doesn’t make the accident less shocking, Bengaluru Police say. First of all, the couple failed to obey the law. Secondly, they could have killed their child through sheer recklessness.

“Mistakes Highlighted - speed, no helmets, overtaking from left side & using mobile phones,” a caption to the video reads, on the force’s Facebook page. “Why the baby was supposed to pay the price for your mistakes? Fortunately, the kid was unhurt and safe. PS: These kinds of miracles don't happen often!”

Though often used, this is one of those rare times when “miracle” best fits the situation.
