Baby Ferrari to Arrive in 2019, to Be Powered By a Twin-Turbo V6

Do you happen to know MotorTrend’s Jonny Lieberman? That guy who announced on his Twitter account last year that the 991 facelift will debut at the LA Auto Show, introducing the 992 chassis code? Well, he’s at it again.

As it happens, Johnny let this slip on the social network: “HOT SCOOP: Ferrari has a TT V6 car coming, aimed at Porsche Turbo S, AMG GT, and McLaren 570S. $180K, 2019 #ferrari #dino #dinolives #NYIAS.” A follower asks Jonny if the intel comes from Ferrari...

Apparently, the 2019-bound baby Ferrari is the leak of “a source deep in FCA. Not joking.” Oh, haven’t we heard those words before. But still, try to imagine the possibilities of it materializing in the near future.

At roughly $180,000, it’s fair to say that the price is right for this type of car.

Twin-turbo V6 engine? As far as we know, there is a force-fed revival going on over at Maranello thanks to the eight-cylinder California T and the newer 488 GTB. On the other hand, you have the Maserati Quattroporte and Ghibli. As a brief reminder, the House of the Trident employs a Ferrari-engineered 3-liter twin-turbo V6 with 410 PS (404 HP) and 550 Nm (405 lb-ft).

If engineers are able to give it more boost and exchange some of the oily bits for Ferrari-grade components, then the yet-to-be-announced baby Ferrari could actually use the aforementioned powerplant. To boot, the Prancing Horse is well-versed in turbocharging technology from F1 and the 288 GTO and F40 of the 1980s.

With Luca di Montezemolo gone from Ferrari, ol’ man Sergio Marchionne intents to grow yearly deliveries of Fiat-Chrysler’s forefront marque. All things considered, you will notice that a force-fed baby Fezza is doable.

We’re keeping our fingers crossed Jonny isn’t pulling a 992 on us again. On an ending note, the last V6 engine produced by Ferrari for a road-going car is Vittorio Jano’s Dino V6 of the 1966 Ferrari 206 Dino.
