The Gaydon-based British sports car manufacturer announced today that none other than Bruno Senna, which is the nephew of the late F1 legend Ayrton Senna, will help Aston Martin Racing this weekend at the Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.
Even though the Brazilian racing driver never really lived up to the prowess of his three-time Formula 1 world champion blood relative, Aston Martin is keen on getting Bruno to join their endurance racing team.
“I’m looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of the Vantage GTE,” comments Senna. “Spa-Francorchamps is a fantastic track and will be good preparation for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.”
Last year, Bruno entered no less than eight FIA World Endurance Championship races, amassing 94 drivers' championship points and scoring two wins for Aston Martin Racing at the Six Hours of Silverstone and Six Hours of Circuit of the Americas.
In contrast, he earned only 33 career points in his three-year Formula 1 venture. The Brazilian ex-F1 driver will join Darren Turner (GB) and Stefan Mücke (DE) in the #97 Vantage GTE, which took third place at the opening round of the championship, the Six Hours of Silverstone, last weekend.
The Aston Martin Racing works team will field four Vantage GTEs in the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 14, 2014.
