It's 1991, the Brazilian is fighting for its third F1 world champion title at the wheel of a McLaren-Honda racing car while Alain Prost jumps ship to Ferrari with the hope that this change will give him a chance to beat Senna.
Many Formula 1 enthusiasts want to grab a hold of any type of memorabilia from that era, especially something related to the great F1 icon that tragically lost its life at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. That event practically announced the bitter end of what we call today "the golden years of F1."
If you want a piece of that action from days past, you might be interested in a certain RM Auctions item. Ayrton Senna's 1991 racing overall will be up for grabs at an event that will take place on May 10 in Monaco, the motorsport capital of the world and the Brazilian's favorite race on the F1 calendar.
After it was worn by Senna throughout the 1991 Formula 1 season, Ron Dennis, the McLaren-Honda team principal at the time and current CEO of the company, made this suit a centerpiece of his F1 memorabilia collection.
It has been preserved in wonderful condition and its future owner will also be given a certificate of authenticity personally signed by Ron Dennis, which states: "We verify that this Honda Marlboro McLaren 'driver overall' has the following history:
Car - Honda Marlboro McLaren MP4/6;
Driver - Ayrton Senna;
Race - used throughout the 1991 season;
Details: driver & constructor champions."
RM expects that the Brazilian sporting hero's suit will fetch anywhere between $40,000 and $55,000.
