If you're a fan of Mercedes-Benz, you probably have a favorite car, one which might not be represented in this video. Mine would probably be the new E63 S, which wasn't available at the time.
But I can understand why these six AMG models were chosen, as they pack all the different hand-built engines that are offered. And more than any other brand in the world, AMG is defined by its engines... except Ferrari.

Let's start with the A45, which redefined what it means to be a hot hatch twice, once it came out and a second time with the mid-life facelift. It's clearly not going to be the winner of the race, but it is one of the quickest off the line, despite what the 0 to 100 km/h times tell you.

Some people consider that what happens after 100 km/h doesn't matter anyway. But for those who do care, AMG has plenty of fast cars. The underperformer of this test is clearly the SLK 43 AMG, equipped with that new twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 that's not built by hand.

It doesn't shine in any way, making you wonder why they bothered to keep it in production. After that, the field gets split between the cutting-edge cars with the new 4-liter V8 and the wild, old-fashioned brutes.

Both the C63 and the AMG GT S use a 4.0L, but the new E63 I talked about has a more powerful version of that V8, and I think it might have won this race. Shame! Anyway, does it come as a surprise that a dedicated speed machine with a transaxle gearbox won the race? No.

The S 65 AMG Coupe is the most expensive car of this awesome drag race. It features the biggest engine, a 6.0-liter V12. But we know from previous drag races that its lack of launch control and the RWD configuration make it slower than the GLA 45 AMG.

Which leaves the GLE 63 SUV model. It's not quite new, not quite fast, but still, a respectable AMG that can bruise your internal organs with its ballistic 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8.
