Many car meets happen to take place on the grass and we’ve always wondered what happens when you... just add water. The footage below comes to provide a pretty good answer to that question, also offering us a front wheel drive vs all-wheel drive moment in the process.
When your car is a Passat CC that you’ve lowered on large rims, the last thing you want to do is go offroading. Alas, the driver of the Volkswagen in the clip did just that, probably while attempting to move his car around during a meet.
Okay, this is in fact softroading, but the idea is that the CC, which also happened to be front-wheel driven (yes, 4Motion all-wheel drive versions are available) sank into the mud. According to the guy who captured the footage, the guy behind the wheel tried to get his Vee Dub out, but only dug deeper into the mud - such situations require the driver to step out of the car and release some air from the tires, thus creating a more generous contact patch.
While the guy obviously did not attempt such a thing, a Volvo S60 was ready to rescue him. At the cost of getting mud all over and especially under his car, the Volvo driver tied his car to the Passat CC in what may have looked like a Tug of War scene.
That was no ordinary S60 though - we are talking about the S60 R hot model. Leaving the 300 hp of the turbocharged five-cylinder engine aside, this means the V-badged car came with all-wheel drive. In fact, the S60 uses a Haldex center differential, just like the Passat CC would have done, had it been gifted with 4Motion.
Needless to say, the V6o R put on a bit of a show while helping its four-door coupe friend get out of the mud.
