Avus Mercedes Benz C63 AMG, Meaner than It Looks

Who's to say that an already bulked up car, say Mercedes Benz C63 AMG, cannot receive a bit extra, both in terms of design and performance? Well, we used to think us, until Avus Performance unveiled its own version of the factory tuned C63.

Of course, the main additions were made to the car's exterior, but their are not as radical as you would expect. Avus has painted the mirror covers, the front grille, the roof, the Mercedes emblem and the bar below in black, to give it a more aggressive stance. But that's not really tuning, is it?

Well, they did some tuning as well. The C63 AMG received a lower suspension, achieved by changing the standard springs. The exhaust system was replaced with a stainless steel one, "which lets the car to sound the attack", as the tuner says.

Not impressed, yet, are you? Neither were we, until the technical specs have calmed us down a bit. Avus has tweaked the engine into developing three different power stages. The car now undergoing testing develops what they call stage 3, that is 585 horsepower (up from 457) and 740 Nm (up from 600 Nm).

Translate this into speed and the Avus C63 AMG tops at 320 km/hour (199 mph). The factory tuned C63 has a top speed of 250 km/hour (155 mph), so do the math...You of course have to be able to stop safely, so Avus provides the C63 with 8 piston brake calipers (380 mm diameter discs), hidden beneath the 19 inch AMG multi-spoke wheels.
