The event opening on July 15 will feature a free practice session held on different parts of the circuit until July 17, while the single timed challenge of the full course will take place on July 19.
The Essex-based team, Mach 2 Racing, who will run with the Avon tires, are entering the competition with a modified Ford RS200. The car will be tamed by double ex-British Rallycross Champion Mark Rennison.
The Ford RS200 they will be competing in was specifically built for the Pikes Peak event. The car will run with a Garrett turbo system and high octane fuel developing 950 HP, but also having a 70-liter tank of Nitrous Oxide which will boost the power to about 1,150 HP.
Pikes Peak is a famous hill climb course, located in Colorado Springs, USA, that stretches for 12 miles and starts at 9,440 feet and ends at an altitude of 14,110 feet. The stage is regarded as one of the toughest challenges in motorsport, awaiting its brave contestants with a staggering number of 156 turns on asphalt and gravel, while being only few inches away from up to 6,000 feet steep drops.
Rennison and car owner, pharmaceutical businessman Alan Greenwood, are confident they will complete the course in under 10 minutes.
“When I first tested the car, it was on different tires but the team had some Avon rallycross tires so I tried them and they transformed the car”, he explained. “We tested the tires at Millbrook on harsh concrete and they stood up extremely well, so I am sure they will be well-suited to the Pikes Peak course” concluded the British driver.
