Avatar Producers Hand Each Crew Member a Prius

Although the automotive industry is now focused on its green side more than ever, there are some other things outside this particular sector that bring environmental protection on the front page of newspapers.

We all heard about Avatar, the title that has been crowned the biggest movie ever, with an international gross of more than $2.7 billion, and the way it tried to bring the “green” theme in the spotlights, but now its two producers, James Cameron and Jon Landau, decided to push things one step further.

They both decided to give each crew member a blue Toyota Prius, of course, in an effort to help them stay on the green side. The top-of-the-range Prius cost more than $30,000 and Softpedia writes that each of the 11 members of the crew received one.

"My optimistic side says that Avatar did as well as it did for that reason, that there's a time for a change, for a recognition that we have to answer for the way that we've been and remember our respect for nature. We have to find a better way than the way we live today,” Cameron said in an interview with the Times magazine earlier this year cited by Deadline.

“It's not that the movie converted people — it resonated with something that was already there, to find something inside for people and gave people a way to think about this. And if that manifests in people cutting down on their energy usage or recycle or buy a Prius…”

Of course, people have already started questioning Cameron’s decision to choose the Prius, especially because Chevrolet’s Volt has already been released. The Volt, built in the United States and already on sale in GM’s domestic market, is Chevrolet’s flagship product and is intensively promoted by the US-based carmaker as the model that could change the perspective over the automotive industry.
