Avanzare, a Harley-Davidson Sportster the Asterisk Way

Japanese custom motorcycles are some of the most distinguishable pieces of moto art and craft out there, and their trademark character remains deeply imprinted in the mind. So here's Avanzare, Asterisk Custom Cycles' re-interpretation of the good old Harley-Davidson Sportster.

Italian for "progress", Avanzare is really taking things many steps forward as far as design and custom parts are concerned. If anything, the Avanzare is elegantly blurring the borders between choppers, cafe-racers, old and new designs and by all means, between the odd and common.

The swingarm was replaced by one inspired from a racing Honda NSR500 Grand Prix and the dual shocks gave way to an Öhlins unit. Öhlins has also supplied the front fork: it is now kept in place by a custom billet aluminium triple clamp which has also reduced the rake from the chopper-approved 29 degrees to a more sporty 24-degree, for enhanced maneuverability.

We were amazed by the intricate welding of the exhaust pipes, a true work of mechanical art themselves. A Harley ending with a Pro Circuit off-road/ motocross silencer is however, one thing we didn't see coming. The custom-made belly pan provides the location for the oil tank, while the tail section houses the coolers.

Adding in the super-tapered tank as a perfect match for the revised seat makes the Avanzare look more aggressive than most Sportsters we saw recently. And the rims are nothing like we've expected... in a very good way!

Hideki Hoshikawa's Avanzare has rightfully won the Best in Show and AFT Visionary Award in the LA Calendar Bike Show and is a great proof that H-Ds have almost no limits as to where they can go in the realm of customization. Seen on BikeEXIF.
