It may not be as fast as you’d expect and it won’t sound like those old Subaru rally cars despite having a similar engine, but it is for sure one of the best new sportscars you can get for the least amount of cash. And AUTOMOBILE Magazine made sure to once again point it out.
Yep, it’s the second time the publication says the Scion FR-S is the perfect combination of ingredients if you search a back-to-basis sportscar. To determine this once again, AUTOMOBILE Magazine’s judges evaluated how the FR-S looked and handled on the GingerMan Raceway in South Haven, Michigan, and on public roads. And in case you haven’t found out so far, the FR-S has been both engineered to fit its owner both as a daily driver and as a track car.

“Is 200 horsepower enough for a sports car? Yes, provided that sports car is light and has a perfectly balanced, rear-wheel-drive chassis. Oh, and don't forget to include perfectly placed controls,” said Jean Jennings, president and editor-in-chief of AUTOMOBILE Magazine. “Because of all this, the FR-S is among the few modern cars you can enjoy driving at the limit without losing your license.”

For $25,255 you get a sleek coupe, with a flat-four engine under the hood, a manual 6-speed transmission, rear wheel drive with Torsen limited slip differential and a 50:50 weight distribution. Standard features include remote keyless entry, power mirrors, daytime running lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, one-touch auto up/down power windows, tilt-telescopic steering wheel, cruise control, aluminum scuff plates and a Pioneer audio system with multiple connectivity and HD Radio.
