The brand new BMW X5 is ready to take over where the last model left, at the top of the luxury SUV segment even though the Bavarians are marketing it as a Sports Activity Vehicle.
The new model has more luxury than ever, with a redesigned exterior and interior, new upholstery options, new ‘Design Worlds’ and exquisite diesel engines that make you forget you’re in a so-called ‘oil burner’.
The guys from Automedia put together a top 10 of the best luxury SUVs for 2014 and the X5 is amongst them, of course. However, I’m kind of reluctant towards some of the names listed there.
Whilst the Escalade or Infiniti QX80 are surely in this class, I’m not so sure about the Touareg. Sure, the car is rather brilliant and offers a price/performance ratio that is simply unbelievable but, it’s not exactly from a luxury manufacturer, now is it?
Other models on this list include the all-familiar Porsche Cayenne, Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, Lincoln Navigator, Range Rover Sport, Lexus LX 570 and the Acura MDX but, curiously, no Audi.
